Merck KGaA restructures its OTC business, establishes global Consumer Healthcare unit

Darmstadt/Germany 7. února (PROTEXT) - Merck KGaA announcedtoday that its world-wide OTC business, part of thePharmaceuticals Division, will be restructured into a globalConsumer Healthcare (CHC) unit, effective immediately. Onecornerstone of the new organisation will be product innovationand acquisition. Accordingly, Dr Joachim Bug (37) has been named GeneralManager, R&D and Scientific Affairs, responsible for the world-wide product development. He will be in charge of the three CHCproduct development sites (Lyon/France, Hull/UK andDarmstadt/Germany). Gilbert Mertens (54) has been named GeneralManager, Business Development and Communication, responsible forthe CHC acquisition program. World-wide operations will be splitinto four continental regions. "With this new structure, Merck KGaA underlines its clearcommitment to fast and strong growth in its world-wide ConsumerHealthcare business", states Volker Keidtel (58) who has beenappointed recently as Head of Merck KGaAs global ConsumerHealthcare business. "We are confident that the dynamism of thenew team, combined with our ambitious expansion plans, will helpus achieve our DM one billion sales target", Keidtel added. Together with Ethicals and Generics, CHC is one of the threecore areas of Merck KGaA's world-wide pharmaceutical business.
